The Task of Making a Choice of the Next Governor of Edo State Would Be Made Easy by Edo Vanguard: Dr. Thomas Attah

Speaking with our correspondence at a meeting held in Abuja the Coordinator, Edo Vanguard, Dr. Thomas Attah stated that the task of making a choice of the next governor of Edo State would be made easy by Edo Vanguard.

He said the Edo Vanguard is a grass-root socio-cultural, nonpolitical, non-governmental and not-for-profit-making body with its members across Edo State, having technocrats in various fields at its helm of affairs.

Dr. Thomas Attah further said Edo Vanguard had been working acidulously in the background to achieve its aim and keep its promise to the people of Edo State. He maintained that “we are aware of the enormous task of making a choice of who leads a group of people and in this case, the good people of Edo State.” 

Edo Vanguard has put this responsibility on itself to do thorough diligence on all those we know have the capacity to become the governor of Edo State and we will present the best candidate among all of them he said.

He assured that the parameter Edo Vanguard had used for selection would eradicate any mistake from choosing the right person for the job of the governor of Edo State. He said Edo Vanguard takes to mind the age, qualification, family background and history, his or her relationship with his or her own people, levels of political involvement, achievements and experience.

Dr. Thomas Attah opined that Edo State had been very unfortunate in making the right choices because governors had never been forced on Edo People, he said they get who they want but in most cases, they allow their emotion to take undue advantage of them when making their choices because they look only at the antecedents of aspirants, which in most cases have been arranged to deceive the people of Edo State to get their votes.

He has promised that he will not allow emotions to rule the people of Edo State in the next gubernatorial election because once the right head of government is in place the other parts of the government will be properly situated.

The Coordinator, Edo Vanguard, Dr. Thomas Attah informed that Edo Vanguard had done a very thorough check on a couple of Edo sons and daughters who are willing to give themselves up for the job of the governor of Edo State. He said it took a lot of consultations, time and money to get information that helped Edo Vanguard to take an informed decision.

The man he said Edo Vanguard is very certain about would do this job as governor of Edo State has met all the parameters used for assessment.

Dr. Thomas who was very confident about the capacity of this Edo son said that Edo Vanguard would meet to consult with him and convince him if he was not thinking in that direction to see the need to rescue Edo State and its people from further dehumanizing conditions orchestrated by bad governance.

He said Edo Vanguard will meet with him as soon as possible hoping that he will accept to serve the people of Edo State in the capacity of Edo State governor. The Coordinator said the urgency in our visit is to give him a good time to make his decision and in the event that he refused to accept our proposal, we will be able to revert to the next person on our list.

Explaining why Edo Vanguard is already seeking who will be the next governor of Edo State in an election that will take place in 2024, Dr. Attah said that to carry out a thorough background check with due diligence is not what you jump into within a short period of time because of the challenges involved. We need the time to convince our preferred person in case the person was not willing to contest the gubernatorial election in Edo State he stressed.  

According to him, anything worth doing at all is worth doing well, therefore, the time to start putting things in place ahead of 2024 is now.
